You should always respect law enforcement. However, you should also be aware of your rights and what not to do (like lie) when dealing with LEOs. Number 1 mistake is to lie to an LEO. LEOs will lie to you (like relax we don't know you're going to jail yet) but don't get caught lying to them. There are good LEOs (most) but there are some bad apples (a few very bad apples) who would do anything to make you nervous enough to try and develop a case even if you did nothing wrong. They want that ticket or arrest so they can boost their contact figures. If you're stopped treat them with respect and follow their instructions but don't let them search your vehicle because they ask. You may not have anything illegal in your vehicle that you know of but someone might have used it and left something you didn't know was there. Like your kid's friend left a roach in your ashtray you had no idea was there. Now you have explaining to do if they don't smell it and you let them search. That might not cut it. I would sometimes try to legally get into a vehicle or convince you to let me have a look. Some folks aren't the sharpest tool in the shed and get scared just because LEO stopped them. Don't be that guy or the wise guy. Other folks get hostile and are roadside lawyers. Take the middle ground and be respectful to the difficult job the LEO has but don't feel you are required to give up your rights either. Be respectful but know your rights and don't lie. Do that and you'll be fine.

I understand my rights for the most part and I'm not going to allow my vehicle to be searched without reason but I will treat it like a traffic stop and show him my hunting license and pen.

But if he asks nicely to search your vehicle, you'll comply.
No but if they want to they will . I don't see where these road blocks are no different than any other road blocks except if you are a hunter and have a deer or deer parts you have to verify the deer on your harvest record. all in saying is if I go through one I'll comply within reason. like I said I am not a fan of game wardens and some of their tactics but I'm certainly not going to show my butt because I don't agree.
Heck one year on the gator I got checked by the same boat of game wardens 3 times in an hour and a half in the same creek ! we never moved! It was TOATAL bs but what do you do !? I did the same thing every time and checked they boat out ,checked tags, licence, wepon, ammo, and so on . I would have much rather been checked going at the boat ramp than while I was was hunting.

No one mentioned having a deer or deer parts. Wardens are checking anyone they "think may have been hunting." Yeah obviously if you have a deer in your truck they have the right to view the requested info, but if you're just wearing a camo jacket? Give me a break.

Do you feel someone should be ticketed for not having a hunting license at the roadblock?

No but if you have deer you have to show everything required and searching your vehicle isn't nessasary.

whats to worry about. There is nothing you can be ticketed for.I have not heard anything about anyone being pulled over for being a hunter . I pass game wardens all the time and my truck defanatly fits the profile righ down to a bloody bumper.

No one said anything about having a deer. This is about license check at a roadblock. Now, if you have a deer and the documentation, searching your vehicle isn't necessary. Does that mean no deer and no documentation searching your vehicle is necessary?

Im going to be polite. If they ask for my license at a roadblock with no deer, in will politely tell them to move on to the next vehicle. That I'm not playing that. Now if they choose to not leave and move to the next car to try to find a sucker they will find me to be very non-compliant. They won't get anything from me but driving documentation, nothing hunting related. I will take a breathalyzer, but will not give consent to a search. I'll garauntee one thing, I have more time than they do. I'll stay beside that road for 3 days if I need to.

I see firm evidence in this thread that points to why the political world in Alabama is the way it is.

Yes, absolutely. Because when I'm hunting is when I expect him or her to check me, not when I'm driving down the road.

I would not show a hunting license/Harvest Record in a G&F roadblock on a public road. I would show DL and insurance card.

anyone who allows any LEO to search his vehicle "because he didn't do anything wrong" is two bricks shy of a load.

That is INCORRECT

You need either a Harvest Record or the Game Check App while hunting.

Once you've killed an animal, it must be recorded via either the app or paper record prior to moving the animal. Not having a pen/pencil is not a violation

http://www.eregulations.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Mandatory-Game-Check2.pdf

OK slowpoke, lets try this ONE more time. That you referenced is NOT the regulation on Game Check/Harvest Record....that is someone else interpretation of of how THEY thought it went. NOT what is in the written regulation.

FAILURE TO HAVE A PEN OR PENCIL IS NOT/NADA/NEYT A VIOLATION OF THE REGULATION AS WRITTEN IN THE STATE RECORD.

Comprehende???????

ok smart ass, I stand corrected. I'm sure if I get checked with a dead deer and tell them "sorry, my phone died and I couldn't use the app" they'll just let it slide?

If NHTSA has released any grant money be on the lookout for other roadblocks looking for DUIs. If you drive, be sober and have your DL and proof of insurance handy.
