Not a lot of difference between juvi and prison anymore, kids are way more dangerous than adults. In fact if I remember correctly for a few years in the 90's Mt Miegs had a higher mortality rate than any other facility in the state.
I know 1 guy who did time in juvi and then served the rest of his sentence in prison. I worked with him about 15 years ago. He said juvi was twice as hard as prison. There was 5 times the fights. Everybody had something to prove. He said prison wasn�t easy but juvi was tougher.
