Meh. I don't care what everyone else does, I'm going to have a good time no matter. The old ones won't be here much longer, I'm on my way to being old and the young ones will/may learn in time. I will graze if need be though.

It be's that way sometimes.

If we dont talk but once a year i can do without that mess. I talk to my sisters and parents every few weeks. Thats about it.

My parents are the non hunting type. My dad never once did anything fun with me growing up. We have nothing in common. I love them but id rather just be alone. They look down on me because i hunt and they dont understand it. They think im just redneck i guess. They know they can call me for anything but they never ask me. They had rather ask my sisters husbands. They are the city type. My parents, sisters and their husbands. I have always respected them and been nice. I just feel out of place. Like im a foster child lol. I guess thats why i had rather be alone. I have a few close friends. My mothers side....they were like my family. They dont ever leave their house, the ones that are still alive. My dad has no family except his kids and wife. We are a small family so its a shame i feel like i dont belong to them. They turn their nose up at guns, hunting and what god gave us. They are the kind that think hunting is just to kill. Like they are better than me is the feeling i get. So i had rather stay home than go sit with a bunch of fake family

Ridgestalker, i have 1 boy thats 6. He sees my family as much as possible. He just stayed with my parents all week. I let him have a normal relationship with my parents. I dont let my neglect affect his time. My wifes family are all dead. Its important that my son has a strong family structure. What little family we have, my wife makes sure he gets time with them like a normal kid would as much as possible. I make sure to be involved with my kid cause i dont want him to have the relationship me and my dad have. Which is zero. Dad and i are just different but we are on good terms. Sorry to steal thread. Yes its rude to show up late i think. I think its best to call people out on it if the situation is rite but chances are that it will just cause more drama than good. I dont know

We are late every year to my dads side. Last year someone said something to us. I explained we are late every year it is a given we will be late. I've told them not to wait for us because by the time we get done with our other visits we are goin to be a little late. If they choose to wait that's not my problem. Set the time and start at that time. Sometimes the ones y'all get pissed about may be somewhere else.

Did a full family beach vacation one time. One time. Me, the wife and kids, her mom and dad, and her brother and his wife & kids. I wanted to walk home after the 1st day, but we were there for a week. Her parents and her brother & family are all the "no schedule" type personalities. By the time we got home I needed a Xanax prescription. Trying to coordinate eating out every night was literally unbearable for me.

I've often said that "no schedule" personalities are the same folks that drive slow in the left lane. Absolutely in their own world, only car on the road. They aren't actively selfish, but rather they are passively selfish. They sincerely have no clue whatsoever that they might be inconveniencing others. I call it the 'conscientiousness trait', they are missing it. They aren't really willfully mean people, they are simply easy-going and disorderly. But to conscientious people, they come off as inconsiderate.

My brother-in-law, and his family, are the worlds worst at being late. One year I was going to cook steaks and told them so. I told them I would be cooking and what time they'd be ready hoping for them to be on time. I was cookin away and when the steaks were done, you guessed it, they were nowhere to be seen. I just left their steaks over the fire, on the grill. When they finally showed up about 45 minutes later, their steaks looked like charcoal. My brother-in-law had the nerve to point out his steak was overlooked and that he liked his steak more rare. Without looking up, I told him it was rare at the time I had told him it would be ready. Ever since then, they are on time when I tell them what time we are eating.

my mother in law was so late for our wedding she missed the whole thing. she was riding with an aunt in law that just didn't care about being on time. made me mad ended up telling everyone off that wanted me to go look for them. no hard feelings though, I realize everyone is not going to me like me, on time.

At my daughter's wedding, I ended up locking the door to the church. I'm there about to walk her down the aisle, and people are still coming in. They may have gotten in, but they had to find another door to get through.

If it is at my house, I give the people a 15 minute grace period then we say the blessing and eat.
If we are at one of the other relatives and it is one of my kids that are late, again, I give them a 15 minute grace period then we pray and eat.
If it is not one of mine, I bite my lip and wait it out.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

My in-laws are the same way, drives me crazy. They never make plans for birthdays and such until a couple hours beforehand and then I get labeled as the bad guy when I can't take off work for it. It drives me insane....

I finally just quit going to anything that they "planned." If they want to come down here to visit us, that's fine. We really had it out on one particular outing:

We live in Northport, they live above Jasper. The plan was to meet at the Jasper Cracker Barrel at 1:00 for a late birthday lunch for her sister one Saturday. Our little boy was only about 6 months old at the time. We got up, got ourselves ready, got him ready, and packed the car with all the essentials you need to have for a little baby. We pull up to the Cracker Barrel about 1:00 and wait in the car because the baby was asleep. About 10 minutes after 1:00 she calls her mom to see where they are. They were still in bed, not dressed, needed showers, etc. I was SO FIRED UP about it. It's just a total slap in the face when people have no regard for your time at all, especially on a Saturday. I told my wife we were driving back home and cancelling the lunch. We got to Oakman before she convinced me to turn around. I told her I'd do it that one time but that I'd never EVER be a part of any kind of "planned" event for her side of the family. They finally showed up at the Cracker Barrel at 2:30. They're the kind of people that never have any money, never have any kind of aspirations to do anything great. They'd rather run a call with the Curry volunteer fire dept than do something that would get them ahead in life.
