We made the decision to open gifts Thursday night so we could do a morning hunt today before a family gathering. My son, who just turned 13 has been pressuring me to let him do his first solo hunt. My wife was reluctant but agreed. To make it safer I even went last night and put the rifle and backpack in the shooting house last night. My daughter and I went to one location after dropping him off at his spot for the morning. Things were going slow for us but Logan was steadily seeing deer. His location was in 6 year old planted pines watching a food plot on one side and the road on the other. Logan was texting me updates every 10 minutes or so when I hear a shot in the distance. Immediately my phone rings and it�s Logan saying �Daddy I just shot a huge buck!� The shot was at the end of the road 250 yards away. He said he had to yell at the deer to stop him for the shot and he rushed it. He then too me the deer ran into the pines and jumped back across the road and ran around the curve. This didn�t sound good to me so I sadly tried to calm his excitement. Shortly thereafter he called back saying there were two does staring down the road where the buck disappeared. He asked if he could get down and look for blood so I instructed him to go look where he shot it and no farther. The next phone call I get from him he was elated saying �He�s dead!!� The buck rounded the curve and luckily fell in the road only 20 yards from the shot. He�s a 9 pt weighing 180 lbs. The shot was quartering away hitting him middle of the body and lodging under the skin on the opposite shoulder. So proud for my little man.
