Looking to purchase the new Remington versa max....any negative thoughts on the performance of this gun

Haven't heard anything on performance but the forearm of the gun doesn't feel right to me!

DO NOT USE YOUR REMINGTON VERSA MAX SHOTGUN
Remington has found that a limited number of its Versa Max shotguns may have hammers out of specification. This condition may result in inconsistent firearm performance. Inconsistent firearm performance may result in property damage, serious personal injury or death.
If you have a Remington Versa Max shotgun immediately discontinue use of the shotgun and contact Remington at 1-800-243-9700, Prompt #4. Remington will arrange for the return shipment of your Versa Max shotgun and upon receipt will immediately inspect and retrofit your Versa Max shotgun and return it to you at no cost to you. All Versa Max shotguns that have the hammer enhancement will contain a �V� stamped that can be seen by looking in the ejection port or through the carrier.
No other firearms are affected.

I also didn't care for how it handled.
If you like how it feels and shoulders then I would continue to research it. Google is your friend on this.

Just talked to buddy of mine that is Remington rep. He said that there is no such recall.

1) The recall was much earlier this year and from what I understand it was a minor quality issue that Remington could have swept under the rug but they chose to recall them rather than suffer the effects of a bad reputation from a mistake. This is a touchy situation for manufacturers. Kind of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of decision. In my opinion, Remington did the right thing and decided to correct the issue. Any gun you find on the shelf today should not have this problem, it was corrected months ago. American Rifleman gave this gun the shotgun of the year award despite the recall. They gave a detailed explanation in a later issue after being accused of being "in Remington's pocket".
2) It is one of the most truly inventive designs to come along in a while.
