I think I haven't been on a "vacation" in over 10 years where I didn't take my computer and laptop and spend at least an hour and a half every day making sure everything was caught up.

On the flip side while you goobers are working Wednesday I'm gonna slip off for an afternoon hunt. There are SOME perks to sales.

I thought every day was a Vacation day if you're a sales rep.

Yep, I was notified last Tuesday that our whole team was being let go. I had vacation planned around Christmas so I decided that I would work and take a payout on the vacation. Well that was a first ever for me being told no payout on unused vacation days, use them or poof they're gone. Anybody know of a sales/marketing position please let me know. 21 years of sales experience 16 of which have been in pharma.

It's very hard and people who haven't done it wouldn't understand. With everybody carrying smartphones, your customers expect immediate correspondence at all hours of the day.

Yes I vacation but as long as I have cell service I'm "working".

Sorry to hear about your job. What area are you willing to travel to? I'll keep you in mind if I hear of anything.

This past summer is the first time in 12 years I went on vacation without my computer or iPad. Of course I still had my phone and answered it for certain customers.

Do it for a year and get back with me on that. It's an extremely HIGH PRESSURE/HIGH STRESS job. Great way to make a ton of money if you are good at it and have the drive to put in hours of work "after hours".

Everyone thinks Salespeople have the easiest jobs but what they don't realize is that you are "on call" 24/7/365. It's not something where you clock out and forget about it till the next day. Don't get me wrong, I love it. But it's my life, I sit in the recliner at night doing reports, presentations, call planning, proposals, etc. I talk to customers 7 days a week.

Those that have an A type personality and the drive to work as many hours as it takes to get the job done can make exceptional money. The drive part is where most salespeople fail though.

I was just giving you boys a hard time as indicated by the smilie.

I worked in industrial pump sales for about 4 years. also sold durable medical equipment for a couple years. not all sales jobs are like what you propose, my DME job was but pumps was 8-5 M-F and the easiest job I ever had in my life. it wasnt a fraction of a percent as stressful as a few of the machinist jobs I have had over the years. when the stakes are if you screw up you killed hundreds of thousands of dollars in materials, destroy millions of dollars in machinery or worse, you or someone else could die! but it's cute yall get stressed out so bad over TPS reports. lol

Yeh; some of the engineers and technical staff at work think that way. I just tell them to take a salary cut, grab them a BIG bucket of quota and come on over. No takers.

Sorry to hear; if you have been successful, and you must have to have that longevity, take your book of business to the competition or adjacent industries your clients use.
Good luck!

I only expect it during business hours. if I don`t get it, phuckem. I`m as loyal as they come as long as i1m treated fairly. I`ve got a card board salesman that is close to getting the boot due to his sudden lack of communication. I`ve been buying from him for years but I don`t call to shoot the chit, answer the phone or respond in a reasonable amount of time. don`t make me beg for quotes.

also suli, I believe I remember you being in pharmaceuticals. pm inbound to you.

My main salesman calls me at 8am, 11am, 2pm, and 5pm everyday. He rarely takes vacation. It's got to be a tough job - I'm his main customer but not his only customer.

Your main guy calls you four times a day?

Legit curious - are you his boss and he's checking in, or is he trying to sell you something with each call (since it was only three hours since the previous call, or does he have items that you need a lot of and he's making sure you're well-stocked?

Yall have to be kidding me. I have tooling salesmen hounding me daily. Most of them don't get the idea that if I want something they're selling, I'll call or email them and let them know. I can't stop 4 times a day to meet with the new sales rep for every company in the country that sells endmills. The ones that don't get on my nerves and sharpen their pencils when they price their stuff get the PO's.

I really hate to hear that. It's a bad time of year for that but one bright spot is that most retailers are hiring temp help during the Holidays. You could get a job at Lowes to help bridge the gap while you're looking for a job in your field.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
