Competitive Balance information on same page

This is ridiculous. How can they call that "Competitive Balance? We are the only state to have both a multiplier and a success bump given to private schools. This makes absolutely NO sense at all!!! The AHSAA missed the mark big time on this one!

Private or public schools above? I know why it was done and can see both sides. Radio here calling it The Madison Academy rule.

So listen to this: our school is a private school. Our baseball team lost the last 2 state championships in 5A. Russellville has won the last 3 state championships in 5A. We were bumped to 6A and Russelville remains in 5A. How is this right? It's not about public and private schools. Look at the numbers. Most football championships have been won by the same schools over the last 25 years. Most of them are public.

Will be interesting to see how long it takes for Montgomery Academy golf to be playing 7A

Only the Private schools get bumped up if they accumulate the points to push them up.
The reason is that your school can offer scholarships to athletes to come there and play. For the record, not saying it is right or wrong. Ask some people from Semmes and the Williamson district their thoughts and I can assure you they will agree with the changes.

Do you think this will stop families from sending their kids to private schools? I know people from Semmes, I live there. Offering scholarships doesn't mean you will have a good program. And what about the city run schools? Saraland and Spanish Fort? Every school recruits kids. We lose kids to other schools all the time. That's high school sports these days. This system does not solve anything.

The public/city systems can't technically recruit. If they do get a transfer, the fees are really low as opposed to several thousand dollars.
Not talking about your school, but how many inner city kids can afford to pay 10k a year to go to a private school? If the same kid was not athletically gifted, would he/she be offered the same benefits?
That is the thought process that started all of this and it won't have much bearing on larger schools.
There will be a lot of talk about this one tomorrow.

Alhawk, what do you mean when you say "The public/city system can't technically recriut."? Public and private schools have to follow the exact same recruiting rules. Recruiting kids is not against the rules. But you do have to follow the rules.

My guess on what he means is, public school is free, what do they have to offer a kid to recruit him? Or a private school offers him a free ride to one of the best academic schools in the area, which is the better deal for a kid and his parents? Do you think it's just coaching that has 3 or 4 kids from St. Paul's going to Alabama and then being drafted? Or all of the sudden catholics became better athletes and sent McGill to the state championship game 3 years in a row? Scholarships can turn a program around if you have something to offer the kids. It's not the same in all areas but if you have a good private school surrounded by sub par public schools then you have a leg up in recruiting talent.

Faculty can Not encourage parents to come to their district.

So what you are saying is, if a school has nicer facilities, a big new school, nice playing fields, well paid coaches, nice classrooms with smart boards in them, they have an advantage in recruiting? I AGREE! That is %100 correct!. Now, I just described most of the city run schools and 3 private schools in Mobile. Those city run schools can offer a free education just the same as a private school can offer a scholarship. I am very I involved with HS sports. I know kids transfer to public schools to play on better football and baseball teams. It's not about education.

Alhawk, faculty and coaches, teachers, anyone associated with a high school can absolutely talk to a kid or a parent about coming to their school. AS LONG AS THEY DO NOT INITIATE THE CONTACT. T hats the rule. If a family comes up to the baseball coach at MGM and says they are thinking about coming there, then he can encourage them too. Now, how do you prove who initiated the contact? You can't. It's all he said she said.

The way this should have been done, IMO, is this: get rid of the multiplier, and use the competitive balance system across the board. That way any successful program, public or private, would be punished for success. Not just the ones from private schools.
