If a bow and arrow will kill a deer, Im quite certain an AR will But do you use broadheads or field points? Bullet selection is very important with the .223/5.56 and shot placement more so. Obviously broad head. But the damage from a gunshot extends far beyond the bullet track. It's more traumatic for a deer to get shot.

Any good expanding bullet that will stay together is fine for deer out of a 556/223. Barnes or the Fusions are both good choices. Don't shoulder shoot them and you'll be okay. Shoot them behind the shoulder through the ribs and you'll be fine.
I've killed a pile of hogs with mine, head shooting them and shooting them behind the shoulder with JHPs. Prob 12 or so over 200lbs. I'm killing them to be killing them. If I recover them fine, if I dont, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, so I shoot the JHPs cause they are generally half the price of a fused/expanding bullet. I would not deer hunt with the the JHPs even though I'm sure they would do the job. The point I'm making is "yeah, with good ammo at reasonable ranges, I wouldnt hesitate to shoot one with it"

Federal fusion is a good round. My buddy came to town. Killed his first deer with it. about 60 yards. The heart was literally in two pieces, good holes in the lungs and a dime sized exit wound.
Placement, Placement, Placement.

one of the common themes in these "AR/223 for deer" threads is that they are sufficient with a good bullet and "at reasonable ranges".
What is generally considered a "reasonable range" for the 223/556, assuming a good hunting bullet such as the Fusions or Barnes?
There are 3 certainties in an uncertain world:
1. All Politicians Are Liars 2. All Gun Laws Are an Infringement 3. Taxation Is Theft

Scoped with good glass, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot one at 200 yds with an AR. 100 yds or less, to me, would be optimum especially for younger shooters. Remember, no matter how you cut it, it's a small caliber, light projectile. I don't intentionally hunt deer with a 556 because there are much better options. I like well constructed bullets 140gr or better for serious buck hunting. Lot more margin for error with those.

I'd put my NAP Killzones up against ANY AR round at same distance and cause MUCH more trauma. And yes Im pro-AR so dont get me wrong
There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??
