I had this situation for 15 years with property I leased, only I was the guy driving through the middle of the other property.
I treated that property and those neighbors just as I would expect them to treat me. I never hunted on that land, I never pulled a trigger on that land. I only used it to access my lease. It was never an issue. My neighbors learned to trust me and my family members and I even helped them with planting their fields because they lived 4 hours away.
You cannot assume this other person will poach or trespass. You can talk to him, get along with him and trust him unless he gives you reasons not to. Don't add reasonableness and respect into this thread. We are hunters -aka grown men. Everyone knows we must throw our stake into our rented land and dare anyone to step foot on it, for any reason. If they step foot on it then it is our God given right to bitch about it on an internet board, social media, and coffee shops.

Coy, you mentioned in an ad for members for this club that the previous lessee had nothing but good things to say about the property. Did this situation never come up in conversations with him?

OB he said the guy cut his lock and left the gate open. That�d be a reason not to trust him. Now if he�d left a note explaining some reason why and agreed to replace the lock then maybe I could see that

If that is the case, I think I would have cut the lock as well.

LOL, the second time my neighbors locked me out I ran over the gate with a 3/4 ton Chevy 4X4. Azzhats locked me out, the crossed us to hunt a 40 they had along the river. Birminghamsumbitches.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

And leave the gate open so someone would know I'm in there. From reading the OP the guy has no permission or authority to cross the property or am I reading it wrong? Either way it�s not a good situation when someone cuts the lock to your lease without explanation. other than assuming he�s going to his property nobody really knows what he did or where he went

I don't really think anybody is in the wrong yet. Just a little miscommunication and everyone needs to get on the same page.

Now maybe I would have left a note or a number or called the landowner. But I'm still going hunting. Edit: and if I'm the guy leasing the land im probably asking the landowner why he didn't inform me of this prior to leasing.

Have no dog in this hunt but why wouldn't you make a point to meet the fella face to face? and why wouldn't he ? Never a good idea to start any relationship with playing games . Never understood why someone has to cut a lock . When it's more times then not just as easy to cut a chain link and hang a lock .

And rightfully so would I but I would communicate with the lesser to ward off any future troubles because it sounds just like that�s where it�s going. If that had been communicated there would be no cut lock or even a post about this
