I would guess that the Game Warden is either cutting landowners some slack and not pushing that particular issue. Or maybe he was more interested in verifying other information and once you made the cut he was convinced that you are a law abiding hunter and was ready to move on.
Had a similar encounter this weekend, but with a 65+ year old member. I figured they were prob just looking for bait, and we dont use bait so the License check was just secondary
