Im hunting a spot on cahaba where Ive seen deer before. This is the first time Ive hunted it this season. Im in some big thinned pines about 25 yards off a firebreak. I found this spot late in the season last year and the bucks had tore the firelane up with scrapes and rubs. Theres already a couple scrapes and new runs so Im hoping a buck slips through on his way to bed.

Just shot a buck!!!!! 10 yards, slightly quartering to me. I am 30 up this pine so
It was a steep angle and he toted the arrow off with him. Penetration looked good. This would be first racked buck ever and first buck with a bow (xbow)

Good deal!.....Just keep sitting there and talking to us. He may be laying out there dead or he may be standing 100 yards away bleeding out.

Dang it!....I think we lost him. grin

Edit: The deer might very well be laying out there dead but this does not sound like an ideal shot. Youre likely not gonna find much blood with a high entry and no exit so you definitely dont want to push him. If he was angled toward you then your angling back into the guts. You probably need to back out and give this deer several hours. Im sorry to hi-jack the thread.I just hate for you to lose him.

This is killing my OCD grin

Good luck South!

I do agree with CNC, and I'm not optimistic about the recovery. Hope I'm wrong!!

Hopefully..its getting grimmer by the minute though. Im picturing him on an all-out search right now. We gotta figure out a way to help folks get control of their excitement after the shot and not start chasing after them. Its hard not to do. Im still in favor of branding folks with a dunce cap in their avatar. grin grin

Good luck Southwood7. I shot mine at 10 yards and above the shoulder. The arrow stayed in and didn't exit. The deer was dead within about 60 yards and was an easy blood trail to follow in the dark. This has been the case everytime with this type shot placement for me. I hope it's the same for you.
