Age old debate. Who has more right to the club and deer. Those that work always seem to believe it is them. If a guy pays his dues and work days are not required then there really are no grounds for calling him out. If days are required and someone doesn't that is a bird of a different color. I work in the busiest ER in Alabama and also own 2 businesses. My time is limited as I am sure many others on here is too. I sure don't want to spend the few off days I get working and I am not going to burn vacation for the hunting club unless I am hunting haha. I would just say if there is not rule against what he did, then calling him out however you do it is personal and anyone would have a hard time not seeing it that way. My club doesn't require days or fines, but I pay a "donation" anyway when I can't make a work day. Just my thoughts. Hope everyone has a great season club or not. You are exactly the type person I am talking about. What if everyone had your attitude? How do you think those plots got planted, magic??? Somebody, or a couple of somebodies had to make it a priority and get it done while you make excuses. Everyone has other things to do, I bet you aren't too busy to hunt. If he's up front with them that he'll have limited time to work, but is happy to pay extra in lieu of work days, and everyone in his club is ok with that, then what the hell difference does it make to you? Maybe you and everyone else in your club should have set realistic expectations, and made sure everyone was on the same page prior to the season with those expectations and the consequences of missing out, instead of just kinda making it up as you go and getting your panties in a twist when someone else doesn't do as much work as you feel like you did. But then, you didn't come here for advice or suggestions on how to handle the situation, you came here with your ass on your shoulders wanting to vent, and now you're frustrated because it's gone sideways on you. Bingo! We have a winner.

Usually, there is only so much folks can do. So our club is approximately 1800acres I reckon and we have 14 folks. We've got a couple members with tractors that do all the cutting in and then use an ATV to do all the spreading. It takes 4 people max, to do that work in 1 day. The rest spray shooting houses, clean up around camp, scout, bullschit and check ladder stands. It's really not a big deal at our camp for someone to miss the work day, because you know they will do something that benefits everyone else down the road, ie cook a meal, hang a ladder stand, bring firewood, tell a funny story that you laugh about for weeks...something. Ultimately, having the land to hunt and other folks chipping in to help with the other costs of running the club are the important parts. We have no set rules at our club and everything is based off of just respecting each other and having fun.

Does the club have rules against such? Do they have fines/penalties for such? Are they enforced? We've always believed in minimal rules, never had problems. Just got a couple of new members that think they don't have to work I�ve always said you have to run a club as a benevolent dictatorship with clear rules that if you violate, you�re gone. My uncle has been over our club for 2 decades now and while we haven�t been free of problem people, we�ve been able to get rid of them quickly. I know some argue that you can�t run a club like that but we have for 25+ years and it has worked great.
I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There�s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts. � Ronald Reagan

I wouldn't call 3 jobs an excuse. I have 1 job and barely have time. It's simple, I can save my vacation days for hunting season and a couple trips with the wife or I can spend them working at the club. I do what I can but I also help pay for anything we do and many times offer to foot more of the bill than the other members who work.

I would rather they not show up ! Most of the time when they show up they are texting me saying we've done that now what do you want me to do and when you go look at what they have done it's half assed anyway
