No, that is a false presumption anti-fraternity people have. No one that joins a fraternity does it because you can’t make friends or don’t have friends. Frankly, they don’t take people who can’t make friends.
I joined a fraternity because every male member of my family was in one.
I also am still friends with guys I was in a fraternity with. 25 years later, those guys are still my friends.

People who bash fraternities as paying for friends have no idea what fraternities do and mean. I don’t know why they feel the need to bash people who joined and the organizations. But, it is clear they don’t know what they are talking about because they have not experienced it.
Yep.

I will say one more thing and then I will be done. I firmly believe most of the “he was forced to drink” is crap made up by people after the fact to releave the person of blame for their actions.

I'm not a huge proponent of Greek life, but here are some statistics for you fellas that think they're pointless.
Of the nation’s 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by fraternity men. 85% of the Fortune 500 executives belong to a fraternity. 40 of 47 U.S. Supreme Court Justices since 1910 were fraternity men. 76% of all Congressmen and Senators belong to a fraternity. Every U.S. President and Vice President, except two in each office, born since the first social fraternity was founded in 1825 have been members of a fraternity. Left out that 100% of these people had money before they ever jerked off their frat buddies. I'm not for or against it. Do whatever you want jeez.

Bullish!t and you know it. Spoken like a true defense attorney Nope, not just a defense attorney’s thought on the matter. I agree and I am not one. I believe that there is a tremendous amount of peer pressure in fraternities/sororities, but it is still an individual’s choice to give in to that pressure.

I'm still friends with people I met in college. We hunted together, fished together, got chitfaced together. Still do on the first 2. I didn't follow the righteous path of becoming a fido, or whatever was laid out for me. They didn't have fratties in the 8th grade at Lanett. BTW, that's as far as my father got. His dad died when he was 7. He went to work real damn young. Thank goodness, textile wages and an academic scholarship got me through the 4 years. I was asked to join a frat, but after hearing that they had a special handshake and secret sign, I ran away. (laughing) What was next, a decoder ring? They were even going to bestow a lavaliership on me. Come on, now, I'm a linthead, not aristocracy. What does lavaliered mean anyway. Would I be a diplomat to the Bikini Islands? And the hell of it was, I graduated even though I spent 4 years in the armpit of the south, Birmingham, Alabama. Lots of satire here and I'm sure you heroes of the Parthenon will understand.

The Navy is full of stupid traditions and silly antics just like fraternities. Shellbacking comes to mind. I was in the SeaBees, but I used to laugh at some of the squids talking about shellbacking when they crossed the equator. I would have never made it in the squid Navy. I can't tolerate stupidity. Likewise I would not make a good pledge either.

My older Bro was in a frat at Bama about 30 years ago. They broke his ribs and punctured a lung in a hazing incident he still won’t talk about. Everybody was drunk and he almost died. My parents were done done with frats after that. Just as well because they could barely afford to put me and my twin bro through college. We both worked two jobs at all times in college. My gripe about the Greek system is the elitist attitude funded by tax dollars. I made lots of good friends in college and wouldn’t change a thing. I’m a defense lawyer btw.

I was in the glee club in sixth grade. I could drink a whole quart of koolaid in one sitting. I was bad.

Bullish!t and you know it. Spoken like a true defense attorney I'm sorry doekiller. My response was uncalled for. It doesn't excuse it but I'm going through a lot with my dad right now, and his health, and I'm under a lot of stress. I think I'm going to give myself a timeout.
