People who bash fraternities as paying for friends have no idea what fraternities do and mean. I don’t know why they feel the need to bash people who joined and the organizations. But, it is clear they don’t know what they are talking about because they have not experienced it. I'm not directly this at you doekiller but what you said makes me want to make myself clear on something. I don't bash anyone on joining a fraternity. If it's for a particular person, then great. But anyone that has ever been in one has to admit when they first got in, the appeal of instant friends/relationships had to be a draw. At least, I would think.
