I decided to go sit in my shooting house after the weather straightened up yesterday afternoon. At 1830hrs I catch movement on a lane that leads to my food plot. I grab my binos and see it's a decent 8pt. Never had any pics of this buck and he looked like an older buck. I get set up on him and he steps into the plot at 140yds and I let the 6.8 bark. He spins and hauls his arse and shows no sign of a hit. I watch him run to the tree line and he stops. All I can see is his head. He looks around for a second or 2 and he gone. Now I'm sitting there scratching my head and wondering what the heck just happened and how could I miss this deer. I give it a little time and I walk to the lane he was on. I found his running tracks and no blood. I follow lane to where he stopped and there I find a couple drops of dark blood. My heart drops as I know this ain't good. I find another couple drops for about 30yds and than nothing. I back out and head home. Gave it about 3 hrs and I went back with my dog. She got on the trail right away and we went across and old pasture into and bad jungle of a grown up field. I call her off and decided to wait till morning. We went back this morning and just as I thought,we found nothing. I have no idea where I hit it but I believe with all my heart he is out there alive and well. I checked my camera today and this buck showed up last week.

This is him and he walked out in this plot.

Dang, hate that for you. Is your dog trained for trailing or did you just try her out to see what she would do? Have you shot your gun to see if it had been knocked off?

She's in training as she is only 8months old.
Can't blame it on the rifle. It's right where it need to be. I just screwed it up. It's real easy for me to do that.

Well he showed back up last night. I think he must have broke a nail or something and that's where the drops of blood came from. I sure don't see any place where I hit this deer. I hope I get more pics or better yet get another chance at him so I can see what happened. It sucks not killing him but I feel a lot better knowing he's ok.

no luck for this weekend fellas, I've only 7 deer in 5 hunts and the only two in range have been a spike and small 8 point. I may get to go a time or two this week but it's doubtful. Hopefully I'll be heading to kentucky on the 11th, and the tables will turn

Nothing for me this past weekend. Skint the hair off a doe is about all. I'll be in KY next week, so hopefully I can find a big buck to run an arrow through

Kinds quiet up in here. I haven't hunted since my daughter killed her buck. Between work, rice cutting, fog, mosquitos, and the heat, I just can't make it happen. Hopefully we will get some more cool weather here shortly and I will get after them again. I think the bucks are locked down with the does now. I am seeing very few deer moving on the farm. Next week is my favorite time to hunt here and history shows I've killed most of the bigger bucks this time of the year. Good luck guys.

I've been hunting some, but the weather has been pitiful every time I've went...Some of my bigger deer are finally showing up on my cameras. I think I have one good deer halfway figured out, but there's no way to hunt him til gun season. I'm ready for it!!

I've been hunting some, but just too dang hot this week. I haven't seen very many bucks at all. I hope they're still alive. Been finding several deer carcasses like EHD or something got them.

I didn't even hunt last week bc it was so hot but I do have a mature 6 point showing himself during the morning hours, seems like hes hanging out all night and then making his way back through this spot heading to bed. may give him a shot one morning this week. If not, my next hunt will be in Kentucky

Good luck Sir. Hope you get a good one. The weather yesterday and today put me behind cutting rice. Should finish this weekend and then I will have more time to hunt. Post up pictures when you kill him.
