Got a question for you Skyline hunters...I'm going to be hunting up there for the first time this year. I won;t be able to come out any of the November hunts, but will be there for most of the December and January days. I've done a little scouting, but with that terrain I gotta ask the pros - where are y'all seeing the buck movement? Do bucks move on top of the mountains or are they moving along the sides ( along the shelves and benches)? I'm not asking for anyone's honey hole or anything... just a hint as far as where y'all tend to see some buck sign and movement.
Also... I've heard later is better up there because the rut is kickin late December-mid January. Is this right?

This may sound stupid, but can you hunt from a tree on this hunt? I am new to the state, and stalk only sounds to me like you have to be stalking on the ground, hard to stalk from tree Yes you can hunt from a tree but make sure to use your safety harness, If I remember correctly it is a rule at all WMA's and a personal rule for me no matter where I hunt

Thanks for the help on the tree thing, looks like they coulda found a better name than stalk only. By definition I doubt anyone will stalk a Deer at skyline tomorow

Hunting pressure up here is not 1/4 of what it was 10yrs ago. A lot of it is because they have tripled the acreage. If you don't care to get off the main roads and walk a little you will probably not see anyone. I'm in a club , but I still hunt the WMA on certain hunts. Opening day being one of those. We brought 3 good 8pts out of there last year.
We'll be up there tomorrow. Good luck to everyone!

i hunt skyline at least one time a year. i try to go on the first hunt every year. five yers ago i heard 237 shots ( rifle shots). the next year i shot two deer on opening weekend i fired shots #147 and 149 but i love that stuff . just keep your head down and deer will come running by. if you were hunting behind the citgo at the top that is close to the firing range. might be what you were hearing. i think the target-practice-only-ppl just like to piss everyone off during the scheduled hunts

Well, we went up to the hunt yesterday. We didn't fare well. Neither of us bagged a deer, but there were several checked in. The top side had 15 at the time we checked (about 2:00) and the bottom has 13 checked. A really nice 10 pointer was killed on the top. they also had a 250# hog killed.

. they also had a 250# hog killed. Any idea where the hog came from? I know there have been some killed on the Jacobs Farm tract, just hope it wasn't from the Poplar Springs area. That's close to our lease.

It was on the bottom, close to Lloyds Cemetary from my understanding.

Hog was right behind the check in station in Fackler. I found a lot of hog sign yesterday, just the least deer sign I have seen there in 20 yrs of hunting it. Hunted daylight till dark, seen 0 deer, hunted 3 of my prime areas there also.

Last time I hunted the Jacob's Farm area was 5 years ago. Didn't see hog sign back then. Too bad those nasty critters have moved into that area. I wonder if hogs are now in the Walls of Jericho area? I guess my Swede and I are gonna hunt Skyline this year, instead of the Bankhead and, hopefully, we'll be able to do our part to get rid of some of those piggies.

. I wonder if hogs are now in the Walls of Jericho area? I haven't heard of any sign or sightings in there. Hope it stays that way. I used to hunt in there when it was private. CD.
