And a lot of them CLAIM to have been self employed them get a tax refund when they never worked a day. We get those reports of they are on SSI and when we start to recomp their benefits they say "oh I didn't work, that's wrong, I never filed a tax return". Then when I tell them all they gotta do is sign a statement and I'll have the earnings removed they are all for it. After they sign it, I tell them we will also notify the IRS and they will have to pay back any tax refund they got along with interest and penalties. It's amazing how how fast they change their story when they realize SSA doesn't charge interest or penalties on overpayments even if fraud was involved.
