I can't divulge what I know, or how I know it, about SS here on the innerweb. To do so would mean putting some private and confidential information, about friends and family, on a public forum.
Most of us dont know the difference between SSD and SSID, in fact there is no difference from a taxpayer standpoint.
We do agree on one point, there's far too much fraud and we all know someone receiving benefits that aren't deserved.
My argument is when a deserving person has more than 1/2 dozen qualifying disabilities, according SS rules, and he provides doctor records and proof with initial application, and STILL gets denied. Then he has to appeal and begin the 2 or 3 year waiting game. It happens every time, or at least far more often than not.
Most choose to get a lawyer because its complicated and cumbersome and one mistake can cost months of additional waiting.
I realize this isn't your fault, personally, and you can't change the system alone. But it is flawed and needs fixing. There should be a way to streamline legitimate cases for individuals who have worked a long career and then find themselves in need of assistance.
