Yep. Pisgah and Nantahalla are massive tracts of land with low deer densities for the most part. Now if you are a Daniel Boone wanna be and have the conditioning to hoof it, there's a chance you can kill a monster. Been wanting to do a backpack in hunt in the real rough country but haven't found another willing participant to try it with me. I don't doubt I could do it solo (being successful would be a bonus but not expected) but I know it's not wise to trek that far in without someone else. One fall could put you in a very bad situation if no one is there to have your back.

I aint lived in Fayetteville since 1993, but we used to go to Uwharrie NF. Ft Bragg as mentioned as well. I dont remember NC having much public land in that area. I hear Uwharrie is pretty good but I've never hunted on it. Where you stationed here? Yeah,at Pope from 86-93. Uwharrie was a welcomed change of view to hunt after being in the sandy shucks on Bragg. We'd park not far from Troy and walk in near a RR track. Bout all I can remember. Lol.. yep they don't call it his the Sandhills for nothing
