Good article by a friend of mine who is writing for Daily Wire right now. I know we�ve had a lot of discussions on free speech, Neo Nazis, and Antifa lately, so this seems fitting. It is also fitting because the mayor of Berkely, Jesse Arreguin (committed leftist), has just come out urging the university to cancel �Free Speech Week.� This is a week put on by a conservative organization. Just by happenstance, Ben Shapiro is supposed to be speaking there. Berkely is also charging the college republicans $15k for security. So basically, you can have freedom of speech at Berkely, if you pay enough. This was settled with the University of Arizona where it was decided to be unconstitutional on the basis you are affixing a price tag for the free exercise of a constitutionally protected right. Those rights have already been bought and paid for in blood.
I was talking to my wife about this last night and I think this could be what unites us. On one side you have Antifa who are actually against free speech and on the other side you have white supremacists � not the conservatives the lib media calls Nazis but the actual skinheads � against free speech. Then you have A LOT of Americans in the middle who might disagree with each other but don�t want to squash each other�s rights. I came to realize this yesterday working through a tweet where they announced the mayor�s plans to cancel Free Speech Week. There were THOUSANDS of responses from Berkely students (mostly liberals), other liberals around the country, and of course the folks on our side condemning the statement from the mayor and condemning Berkely�s attempt to collect a fee for exercising free speech. My point is, this Antifa business isn�t as big as the media wants you to believe. It�s a movement of progressives/anarchist looking for an excuse to commit violence. There are some very sick people in the media who are getting their jollies from this. Aside from the over coverage on radicals (on both sides), you have a lot of folks in between who just want to live their lives and not step on anyone else�s. Will we come together to fight suppression of our rights from both sides? I don�t know. I think this is the best opportunity we�ve had in a long time but, we�ll see.
