Just reported he has blown the engine. That will make it tuff for him to make a comeback with no fish at this time.

That does suck.

All the practice time, going out last week in the cold and then again Wednesday, and the first day of the Classic is when it decides to go kaput.

Ugh.

At the weigh in, he blamed in on an incomplete "break in" Thats just a bunch of BS to keep one of his main sponsors happy IMO. Surely he wouldn't show up for the classic with a boat thats not ready to run.

My question is this, he said his boat would be ready in the morning, how is this possible? Does Merc have a couple of broken in outboards on hand to repower his rig overnight?

Merc, Motorguide, etc, etc, etc could probably build a brand new unit out of the stuff they brought to the launch.

Yea, merc and yamaha had mobile shops set up in the parking lot were all the boats are stored. But rebuilding or replacing means break in, unless they have used motors ready to go.

I don't know what motor he's running, but the Optimax break-in is 3500-4500 rpm's for the 1st hour. During the 2nd hour the manual says you can open it up WOT for short periods. Double oil ends after 10 hours. Even if he had to run at 4000 rpm's he still be running at least 40mph and only for a hour.

It would be a pain, but it shouldn't hurt too bad.

Poor planning on someones part. You'd think the manufacturer would make sure those motors are ready for a good as fisherman as him. This is the Classic. No time to be foolin around at the last minute.

Because BASS lets the anglers use their own boats instead of 50 identical rigs like in the old days, it's on the angler to do the break-in and maintenance required.

Boyd didn't do that. It's on him, and him alone. He accepted that responsibility Friday and said it was his mistake and no one else's.

Mercury should be pissed at HIM for not doing it right and making them look bad. But c'est la vie.
