4 in one season here.

I have places that very few doe have ever been killed per landowner request. Population dropped dramatically but seems to have leveled or turned slightly back up.

Let me pose a question: A prominent farmer allows you to hunt his property. Has for years and asked for nothing in return. One day he approaches you about the crop damage the deer are causing. Ask you to kill every one you see. Said he would get permits for nights and summers. If I didn't do it, someone else would. After this guy has done so much for you, who would tell him no? Now, like the place that had no does killed, the population is very low. But the farmer died, land sold, and I no longer hunt it.

The point is, its a complete mortality rate. Hunters normally can only do so much. But combine hunters, coyotes, natural death, car accidents, etc.is the real deal. Take one away, pops. naturally do better. Take hunter OR coyotes away and pops do ALOT better. But its not just one that has done this to the herd in my area.

On the flip side, I have places the pop. is probably as good as it has been in my life.

Back in the pre coyote over aggressive doe killing era I would kill 10-15 does a year and a half dozen plus SOOS bucks. One year I killed 20 does, one accidental spike and at least a half dozen SOOS.

A bunch one year in Colbert and central Lauderdale county when they opened doe days. Don't remember how many it was.

I have no desire now. Rarely kill a doe although I need to kill more on my place.

North Jackson County? That's a different story. I watched a really nice 8 pointer walk across the level below me and let it keep walking because getting it out would have been really rough. My buddy was sitting further down the same ridge so he would have helped me get it back to the truck. I passed anyway. 15 minutes later from my buddy's direction... BOOOOM!! I should have shot it myself, while it was closer to the truck. It took between 4 and 5 hours to get it dressed, dragged and loaded. Most I killed in a season there is 3, two of those were near the road. We had a lease in Russell county that was pretty flat and had a really good road system. It was rare to not be able to get a four wheeler within 50 yards of any downed deer. I filled several freezers there most years.

Deer Lourde fellas, I'm beginning to understand why we ain't seeing any deers. I'd hate to hear the answer if this was a turkey question...I care not about deers, but I hope fellas ain't running amok on turkeys like this

From Paint Rock to Stevenson, those mountains are rough dragging down and dog gone miserable dragging up. I've drug a ton in both directions and not one has ever been easy. I have helped drag out 4 or 5 deer that took 4 plus hours to get out. The 9 point I shot last year I risked not getting to shoot him because I let him walk an extra 100 yards to get close to the road. The heck with those long uphill drags...

I think 5 in one year is the most I've shot in a year.

16, a couple does and the rest bucks. This was back in late 80's, running dogs mostly and only had 3 days of doe season. several years straight I killed 13-16 deer. Now I may kill 2-3 with my bow and 1-2 with my rifle.

Saw 0ver 100 killed in one day in about 1976 or so on Barney's Upper...

5. Damn y'all kill the phucking chit outta some deer. No wonder we never see deer around here. What do you do with shooting 20-30 deer? Donate them?

Years ago. Most years I try to get 3 to 4 does and hopefully 3 good bucks. Thing is how many does turn out to be button heads or spikes. It happens more than folks think. Accently have done it myself.

I'm just trying to figure out what someone does with almost a dozen deer worth of meat? 3-4 last me my wife and 3 kids all the way into next season without ever having to buy beef unless I feel like a steak.

you find folks ahead of time and take it to them. I've never wasted a deer in my life that I killed.

There are some serious killing machines on here...dang. I kill 2 or 3 a year for meat...does. I dont kill a buck unless I intend to mount him and he's gotta be a goodun...kids well thats a different story.
