my very first deer took 7 shots from a 30-30. That poor spike was hit from hind-quarter to shoulder. Some of them were misses. I was so freaking nervous but so freaking proud afterwards!

I shot a buck low in shoulder with a 308. Ran off on three legs. gave him a couple hours. He then took 9 rounds of .40 S&W 2 of which were in the head then ran off. I then retrieved my rifle tracked him another 1/4 mile and took 2 more rounds to finish him. I felt terrible but that sucker had a will to live.

To be so stupid, the one mule deer I killed took 3 .270wsm to the boiler room at 100 yards. All three holes were basically a 1" grouping. He just stood there for the first two. Finally fell after the third.

Shot a buck 5 times with a 7 mag and had to drown him in a beaver pond to finish him off because I was out of shells.

.
Many times I've seen 38s and 9mms emptied into deer and still not stop them. A 40 is a lot better but if serious don't go with anything smaller than a 357 Sig or 357 mag.
