It rained quite a bit this weekend, but we still made some progress and finished off the last project on the view side of the cabin... The guardrail. This project has been a long time coming and to be quite honest my decks have been an accident waiting to happen so we were glad to finally have this done.
The goals here were to:
1. Keep someone from accidentally falling off and killing themselves. 2. Not messing up our beautiful view. 3. Looking kind of simple, neat and industrial.
I used 4mm galvanized cable I got from Harbor Freight with a tensile strength of about 2500 pounds. I connected it to the eye bolts using double crimped aluminum ferrules. If the force I had to apply to the crimping tool was any indication, the ferrules should hold.

Eye lag bolts screwed deep into the corner studs:
Eye bolts bolted through the 6x6 posts with nut and washer on the back side in a counter sunk hole:
The cable passes straight through the center post:
We are going to cap the posts with something, we just haven't figured it out yet. She is leaning toward some blue or green glass post caps.
