Not sure if it qualifies, but there are, indeed, panthers in NW Florida. I saw one circa 1990 around Eglin AFB. My parents saw one about two years ago. Rare but definitely present. I saw a panther with an orange tag on it in the Panhandle in 2008 on property I leased. It was 10 miles as the crow flies to the Geneva county AL line. Good thing it was tagged, very big, and I had binoculars or I would have confused it for a bobcat and shot it.
