I could swear back maybe 30 years ago someone shot one south of the TN river around Valhermosa Spr. I believe and it was in the Huntsville paper and they claimed it was an escaped painter. Course they didn't really know that back then but sounded good to keep them out of a fine I guess. Never heard of that. Been here in Huntsville since 1988 and grew up nearby. Can't recall every hearing about one being shot but could have happened. That Valhermosa-Cotaco area probably has a few unusual wild critters roaming around from the river up to Union Hill and Eva and there'bouts. I know a late friend of mine, in the late '90s, told me about watching a black bear sow with two cubs on private property between Georgia Mountain and Parches Cove. I know that's a big stretch, but he didn't specify. Only told me a general area, but said he and another person who lived there watched the three for about an hour. I've heard stories about mountain lions in that area and wouldn't be surprised about the validity, based on who was telling me.
