I'm sure you know this, but you really should pull the boat and fix the shaft. Check the shaft bearings, stuffing box, struts, and all the rest. A bent shaft can turn into a sunk boat. Back in April we pulled 5 guys off a boat at the ram powell 5 minutes before it sank. They had hit a log coming out of Mississippi, but continued on out. I can't prove it because the boat is on the bottom in 3000' of water, but my guess is that they bent a shaft, and eventually wore out a hole in the hull, tore up the stuffing box, or the cooling sleeve on the shaft. And it's the double nipple and the squiggles. The double nipple is an area 75-85 nm south of OB. The squiggles is an area of rough broken bottom about 50 miles SW of Panama City. Sound like you were around the West Florida Slope.
