I should probably just stay out of this thread. I'll forget to eat if I'm actually busy doing something all day.

I think there once was a 3/4-pound bag or something like that!

In all seriousness, one thing I've learned is all the "Aw, it's just xx calories" adds up. Eighty here, 40 there, 92 here, that's just 53 and before long you're into the hundreds. Also have to check on the healthy snacks like yogurt that may have hidden sugars or carbs (or sodium).

My doctor told me last year that one of the worst things folks can do is get to the weekend and then they blow everything they've done during the week. They eat right, keep it under 1,500 calories per day (or whatever number) and then Friday night they go out with friends or family for pizza. Or they go out Saturday to an event, or work in the yard all day, and their "cheat day" turns into something that obliterates the week's effort.

Guilty. Have to try to maintain on the weekends, too, which gets to the lifestyle changes.

It's all about calories and exercise. Burn more than you take in, you'll lose weight. Any doctor will tell you that.

I've lost 34 pounds in the last 2 months. I've not quit carbs at all. I've basically quit drinking calories (I've had nothing to drink other than black coffee and water during that time), and curbed back my eating. I eat an 80 calorie yogurt with protein granola mixed in for breakfast, a small salad for lunch, and a grilled/baked/pan-seared meat with a small serving of vegetables for dinner. A banana or apple for a snack if I get hungry, but usually don't even do a snack. Supplement hunger with water. I was hungry for the first 2-3 days, and have been fine since. I've been walking about 2 miles/day.

That's it. Not claiming to be an expert, but it works.

Quick info about things like power bars, energy bars, branded ones like Clif Bar, LARA Bar, Oatmega, G-Fuel, Quest, others.

I like to have a Clif Bar if I'm unable to get real food (eggs, oatmeal) because they're packable and aren't bad with coffee. I like the Chocolate Macadamia, Cocoanut Chocolate Chip and Brownie. If I'm going to a trade show or even hunting or whatever, I can stick them in my pack or eat in the truck.

They can fool you, though, through the power of marketing and our own thinking. "It's for hikers-bikers-smart folks, it can't be horrible. It's in the "health food-Protein" area of the grocery store, it can't be horrible." And it may not be horrible but it also may not be the best thing for your health.

Clif Bar Cocoanut Chocolate Chip (about the size of a deck of cards): 250 calories, 50 calories from fat, 43 grams of carbs, 200 mg potassium, 180 mg sodium, 21 grams of sugars and 10 grams of protein.

Tasty? Yep. Handy on the go? Yep. Maybe not the best thing, though.

16 ounces in a pound
3/4 of a pound = 12
150 calories in an ounce
12 x 150 = 1800

"According to Harvard Health Publications, typing on a computer burns 41 calories per half hour for a 125-pound person. A 155-pound person burns 51 calories typing for 30 minutes and a 185-pound person burns 61 calories doing the same job."

Its ok Clem you burn those Doritos off just doing your job!

My wife drinks those everyday for breakfast.

I had one scrambled egg this morning.

Mine does with one scoop and makes a smoothie out of it (frozen berries etc). Best and quickest way for good nutritional breakfast

eat the drumsticks raw instead of the veggies and I can virtually guarantee that you lose weight when the salmonela (sp) hits you.

I actually started my diet on Feb 11 (day after gun season ended)

My breakfast (7am) is 2 scrambled eggs and 4 slices of bacon

about 10am I eat a honeycrisp apple

lunch is at noon and is 4 oz of protein (ham, turkey, fish or a beef patty) and a large salad, with the only dressing is olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

mid afternoon I eat a bananna

supper is usually around 7pm and is another 6 oz meat and another salad.

I walk 2.5 miles twice a day (before breakfast and after work before supper).

Saturday when I joined yalls challenge I was 266, I was 264 this morning.

So in about 80 days I have lost 29 pounds.

My goal is 220. I have had days where I lost 4.5 pounds and days were I lost nothing. I plan to up my walking in the next couple of weeks because I will be at the farm more tending to my garden and my soybeans and corn. That always seems to involve a few beers at the end of the day.

I love my country, but don't trust my government.

Clem is right. Trail bars aren't the healthiest snack options. The cliff bar I ate yesterday afternoon for a snack wasn't worth doing without better and healthier calories for supper.

Also anything with five or more ingredients usually isn't a good choice. Including what you drink.

Add either honey or Stevia to it. It needs some sweet to balance out the sour.
