My Fiance and I will be getting married late June, and we will be needing to buy a car for her by the beginning of August. She has been driving a chevy cruze that her parents have been letting her drive, but they will be needing it back for her younger siblings. I want to get her something that is safe and also is not in the shop all the time. What do yall suggest? I have been looking at a Toyota Camry or even a Hyundai Sonata.

We both drive Sequoias. Mines an 04 and hers is an 05. Good vehicles, but thirsty.

What does she want to drive? A car? An SUV? Smaller car or a mid-sized?
Find that out first, especially if it's going to be hers to drive almost all the time. Then narrow your search. What works well for others may not be what she prefers.
Shaw's suggestion is good if she likes something roomy and safe. I have a Highlander and enjoy it. We also had a Nissan Altima that didn't give us any problems and was a good vehicle (and fast).
Also, if you narrow the list and get to one or two but cannot decide, find a rental place and try to rent that car for a weekend. Drive it around town or go on a short trip. See how she likes it or doesn't like it. Small expense IMO for a bigger investment.

MrsGomer is currently in a 2004 Sienna but she's been eyeing these newer Ford Explorers. I figure once my new [to me] truck is paid for we'll look at getting her something newer. Don't know anything about the Explorers, reliability-wise, but I like the looks of them.

My wife is still driving the 2001 Nissan Xterra she had when we got married. 250K miles and still drives just fine. I cant say I "like" the thing from a driver standpoint, but I cant complain about its performance. And I rarely drive it anyway.
She has her eye on an Infinity QX70 as a replacement though.

I am thinking a car for sure, but not a real small car. A car that is safe and that could possibly fit a car seat in it in the future. Ultimately we would like to get her a 4runner down the road, but she is going into her senior year at UAB, and I am the only one with a full time job for the next year. Money is more of an issue right now. So we probably will need something under 13-14k.

This. We had an 07 Altima SE with the 3.5L V6. That thing was dang quick.

Mine went from an 09 Tahoe to a 2014 Ford Explorer. The Tahoe rides much better but the Explorer is very nice. Would have gotten another Tahoe but they have too many potential issues.

Wife was looking at explorers then I seen all over the news where the newer style was having issues with carbon monoxide getting into the cab. At the time ford didn't know why or how it was happening as said it was a design flaw of some sort. May not be an issue with all of them but apparently it's a big problem with them. I'd check out which yr models before I'd pull the trigger on one. For OP. My wife had an 05 Altima for 10yrs. It was a pretty good car. Had the typical minor things done to it. She now drives a 2014 GMC Terrain and likes it a lot.

The Honda's are just a step above the Toyota's. But you're gonna pay for it. From what I could tell, the Honda Odysseys were 15-20% more expensive than a comparable Sienna.

Are you wanting to buy new or used? If buying new and not leasing, definitely think about your potential needs for the next five years (or length of time the vehicle will be financed). Most sedans will fit two car seats in the back seat comfortably and most will fit three tight.
My mother-in-law had Toyota Camrys for years and swore she wasn't going to drive anything else. When we bought our 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe the dealership let us drive a Sonata home while they were getting the Santa Fe ready and we took it buy my in-laws' house and let her drive it a bit. Next thing we know, they have gone and bought her a Sonata. I don't think you could go wrong with either vehicle. We are just partial to Hyundai now because of our personal experience with the brand (and our son-in-law works for the plant in Montgomery).
Based on your price point, though, you might consider a Hyundai Elantra SE instead of the Sonata.

mine drives a 2011 Sonota. The worst head lights ever!!! We try to avoid driving it at night as much as possible. Hopefully they fixed that by now though!! Her clear coat on the top is coming off realy bad now as well!! Personally I will never own another car in my life!! I can't get comfy in them!!
