The past few days I have had a weird scratchy cough. Thought I might try a cough silencer of some sort. Anybody have success or feedback good or bad about a particular brand?

I don't know about that but I carry a bottle of water with me, a few sips every once in a while helps calm a cough. The cough silencer looks like an expensive bacteria trap.

Thanks for the replies. I tried bottled water this past week and helped for a short time. May just have to try some heavy duty cough syrup or cough drops. Always worry about the scent with the cough drops though.

Don't go climbing a tree after a dose of cough syrup.

I know right! I'm screwed either way. Hate to not go hunting because of a cough. May just bury my head in my shirt sleeve real hard and cough that way.

Carry toothpicks to chew on. The saliva will help with the cough.

I always carry a ziplock bag of peppermints that have already been unwrapped to keep the noise down. I've done this for the last 20 years.

I have used one for about 10yrs, they have like a muffler that you wrap cotton balls around and you can put them in the dishwasher to clean them. They actually work quite well.

I chugged half a bottle of Nyquil in the predawn once because of a pesky cough. Woke up in my climber about 11:00.

Just take a sip of Tinks 69 every time you feel like you need to cough. Two or three sips and you will quickly lose the urge to cough.

An empty gatorade bottle with a few 1/4" holes in the bottom stuffed with cotton balls is the same thing as a cough silencer they sell in cabelas. No need to worry about germs, when you are done hunting throw it away and make another one.

Water bottle hole is too small, use either gatorade or powerade bottle.

Octoberdreamin told me someting that I didn't know while I was trying to hunt with a cough.
I have a Loritab 7.5 prescription because of my two back surgeries. I don't take them much but keep them in my truck because I have kidney stones. Anyway...you can take 1/2 of one and it will keep you from caughing because of the codeine. Same thing that prescription caugh syrup has in it.

Not a bad idea. I will probably give this a try. Thanks. Peppermints will be in the backpack as well! Thanks for the suggestions.

Dan, I have had the same one that Cab. has on for 1.88 and have used it for several years. Have tried it with does in the field and it has worked great. It uses cotton balls to buffer the noise.

I had to get my wife one because she develops bad coughs in the winter and was running deer off alot. She said it worked quite well. Its just seemed like it helped her get em in rifle range, real close and they would still hear her. I cant see the gatorade bottle not working just as well though.
