My old buddy Pap used to say "I like my turkeys like I like my eggs, poached". My first trip to Texas, I arrived and the ranch owner says "I've got a guide from Alabama his name is Pap Nelson..." I hunted with Pap on a 20,000 acre ranch any guess what we did. Yep, we poached my first 2 Rios from an adjoining ranch! Judge not ye lest ye be judged by him.
Lonster That is just so impressive

Why kill birds on your property when you can go kill the neighbors? Keep em in your hip pocket for tough times.

Monster Well all I can say is if he couldn't find a turkey on 20k acres then he ain't worth a damn and you should have asked for your money back.

Those who poach will steal. Those who steal will cheat. I have no use for any of them. If it is light hearted sarcasm we are discussing here, fine. I refuse to tolerate stealing from me. If you are poaching you are stealing. If you are stealing from my neighbor I will do everything I can to see that you are brought to justice. You want to hunt? Hunt what you are willing to pay for, or hunt public land.

Is it really poaching if you hunt adjoining land. The birds don't see property lines so they belong to both sides. If one of your birds is on the other side of the line you have the right to go and retrieve him. Right??

I don't want to see any popcorn or nothing else just know I don't like you and I'm glad you are gone.

I think a lot of what you're reading here is tongue-in-cheek stuff but no doubt some have loose morals. I used to hunt a 600 ac tract that bordered Lake Martin. I had a dude shooting turkeys out of a boat. I think he would shoot them then come back later to retrieve them. I high tailed it to the edge of the lake on two occasions only to see a John boat motoring away too far to identify.

Don't take this the wrong way but if you've got turkeys behind your house that are on some place like the water works property where the only reason they aren't supposed to be hunted is due to liability issues and you're not fooling with them then you may not be cut out for turkey hunting.

"Why do you ask"?
Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

Oh I fool with them alright, I just can't get them to come to my neighbors property which I have permission to hunt.

good lord I haven't heard of that name in many of years, pap nelson. my honey hole I lost this spring I could have crossed the fence real easy, I never did, never heard anyone in that area except for a couple of times and he was trespassing as it was. I actually told him once that if he had shot at that bird where he usually flew done to, my side of fence. I had slipped in within 50 yards of his roost tree up hill from him a HOUR before any light. I thought I heard something come in to the fence but wasn't sure it was a person, until he hooted and started crow calling right at first light along with his yelping like crazy 75 yards from the tree. of course with all that racket bird flew to the open field away from him. as soon as the bird I hoped was on the ground 200 yards away. I started down the hill to get close to him. I saw the guy get up and start walking away, I told him that if he had shot to where the bird would usually land he would have shot me. he got pissed and said what did you say, I told him again. he walked away no saying anything. I didn't call mr green jeans cause I didn't know if he had permission or not, but I knew he didn't. besides the bird was at a spot that I really tried hard to kill him that day. 7 hens drew him away. I killed him 2 days later. when he flew down from the roost right where he normally fly down to. all I done was cluck real soft when he was on the ground.
if i hadnt taken up hunting i might have became a juvenile delinquent or worst taken up GOLF

If I have to choose between two gobbling turkeys I will pick the one closest to the line every time. I am lucky in that my neighbors are all friends. Kinda a gentlemans agreement. 50 yards ain't a big deal.
