Drugs are a crutch for many. Legalization is insane. Yes there are the harmless potheads that only live to smoke dope, but what about the people that seek longer stronger "highs or BUZZ? This is mostly due to abused prescription drugs. These are easy to obtain and use.It seems crazy to me that they want to blame the Drug Companies instead of the abuser.

In 2012, Alabama had more opioid prescriptions than residentsa higher rate than that of any other state.

In New Jersey, Gov. Chris Christie saw a dire need for change in doctors prescribing opioids. This state alone saw almost 1,600 drug-related deaths in 2015 alone.

Recently, the New Jersey governor signed legislation that restricts the drugs to a five-day time limit. Except for patients with chronic pain or cancer and for hospice use, doctors are forced to abide by the restriction. The new legislation also requires many health insurance companies to cover rehabilitating the addicted. With this new legislation, Gov. Christie is taking a huge measure that other state and national leaders need to follow.

I certainly don't think all drugs should be legalized, but it is absolutely asinine that marijuana is illegal. It should, at the bare minimum, be legalized for medicinal purposes, and frankly it should be legalized across the board, in a similar manner as alcohol.

I think marinol is a synthetic version. I think only about half, maybe a little over half, have legalized medical marijuana. but I may be off on that number.

Stop using Naloxone to treat OD'ed patients. Let them enjoy that last hit. Cruel yes, but I wasn't the one the got them addicted in the first place.

Legalize it all and give the dopers an unlimited EBT card for any drug known for overdoses and a free bus pass to get them to the dispensary. Administer the drug for them and then drop 'em off at the soylent green factory. The so called war on drugs has done nothing but corrupted a good amount of our legal system and turned the Northern border of our southern neighbor into a warzone, imprisoned many of our misguided children, turned others into medical disasters, financed current and past terror organizations, funded our enemies killing our soldiers Let's just give everybody that wants it enough to kill them and move on.

There are certain issues that we face that no perfect solution exists and if you think otherwise you're truly naive.

If you went total libertarian and said all drug laws have been repealed that in my belief would be disasterous.
That current status quo has proven to be ineffective for numerous reasons.

I think marijuana decriminalization would be beneficial.

Drug laws only lead to higher incarceration rates and higher death rates.

The drug related death rate per 100,000 citizens for the US of A is 6.96. (That puts us at #3 globally). Compare that to other countries with strict drug laws: Iran @ 6.28 (#4 globally) and Cambodia @ 4.84 (#11 globally).

Now, contrast those results with Portugal who decriminalized ALL drugs... their death rate is 0.60 which puts them at #114.

100% decriminalization would cause a spike in deaths on the short haul (while all the idiots weeded themselves out) and would be much lower & cheaper on society over the long haul.

It would also lead to increased usage from the increased ease of access. More broken marriages and homes. More Grandparents raising grandchildren. More tools stolen from work trucks and taken to pawn shops to buy heroine with. Got a friend going through all this with his daughter right now.

Seeing what it is putting him and his wife through is enough for me to take a pretty hard stance against it.

Prohibition doesn't work. It never has and never will. I've never understood why some people think they have a right to tell other people who they can marry, what they can do in their bedrooms, and what kind of chemicals they can put in their bodies. As long as you're not hurt me or anyone else, then knock yourself out.

William you nailed it"HURT ANYONE ELSE". Do you really think by legalizing drugs you will cut crime? Really? Do you think the same drug users that are robbing us now , will get jobs and stop stealing? The meek mention of that is crazy. No one that lives a criminal life is going to change. They don't obey laws now, do you think the change of a law will cause them to reform??

Says the fear-mongers & big pharma.

Again, look at the real life example of Portugal where drug use has been at a steady decline since decriminalization as well as lower crime rates. In fact, the crime rate in the US is nearly double that of Portugal.

Perch, do you remember the alcohol prohibition era of US history?Do you really think by legalizing drugs alcohol you will cut crime? Really? We've been down this road before. When's the last time a place got shot up by Johnny Bootlegger? Where is the mafia today? Out of business.

If you think illegal drugs are a problem, you should read up on prescription drug abuse.

It is absolutly mind boggling the amount of drugs some of my patients take on a daily basis and still function. It would scare the crap out of you if you knew the level of legal narcotics people are on while driving our roads every single day.

Yes. Back when I was shadowing it was unbelievable all the pill concoctions people function on. Turned me off from medicine honestly.
