so my new truck has a locked hitch pin on the trailer hitch. previous owner said he'd look for the key and send it to me but he's been unsuccessful in the search.
So.....any ideas on removing it? I have my own locking pin that I'll be using when I get this one out, but want to change receivers. I don't care if this pin is damaged/destroyed, as long as the hitch itself and the bumper of the truck (obviously) are unharmed.

Depends on the hitch. Photo please. Have you considered a side grinder with a metal cutting wheel or reciprocating saw?

Depends on the hitch. Photo please. Have you considered a side grinder with a metal cutting wheel ^^^^^^ 4" side grinder with cut-off wheel I was gonna say a 1/4", straight shank, air die grinder with a 3" cut-off wheel. But if you owned one of those you wouldn't be asking.

Yeah, I'm thinking a grinder or hacksaw might be a better option than a torch....at least for me. I'd likely catch the whole dang truck on fire and I haven't even had it a month.

I don't know what kind you have, but the last one I had to remove took exactly one good blow from a hammer and the lock fell right off.

Hammer and chisel. I have knocked many off this way. I am bad about loosing keys. Don't use a grinder unless you cover your truck with a sheet or something

Here's a couple of pics if that helps. I don't have a grinder/cutting wheel, but know a couple folks that do. but if y'all think a couple good whacks with a hammer might do it, I may give that a try first.

I have one like that. Swinging a hammer would be difficult. Definitely cutting wheel. Cutting wheels are cheap. Barrow a grinder and buy several wheels. Good Luck

I've cut them off with a battery operated saws all. Super easy.

Park it in my driveway tonight. Some s.o.b. removed mine that looked just like that and stole my trailer hitch.

I had one refuse to unlock for me when I gave my truck to my son. I used an air grinder with a cut off wheel. Took less than two minutes. One thing I have found out the had way. Buy a lockable one that has the "coke machine" round key to unlock. I have had one of these for over 20 years and it never failed to unlock.

Yep, the one I have on my other hitch is pretty hard to unlock, even with the key. like it's rusted up inside. Need to spray some WD40 or graphite or something up in it to see if it loosens up a bit.
