Yes. I have to these days. I mainly use my 20 year walkers game ear to help early in the Am and hearing long way gobbles. Once I get them pinpointed somewhat I put it back in my vest. I carry extra batteries cause they will die or get switched on on accidentally.

Been using Walkers game ears for many years. Not the aids but the head phone type...quad muffs. I wouldn't go into the woods without them. Usually take them off when I'm close enough to work the gobbler.

I use the Pro Ears gold. I believe mine are the predator series. Sometimes you can find them cheaper than 299, and I think I did. Yes, they are more expensive than some of the others mentioned, but I tried some of the others and though these were better. Also, you get a five year warranty.

As with all of these things, two issues (1) windy days, and (2) distance detection. Generally, I use them to locate gobblers and then take them off when I set up. Sometimes, I leave them on just to see if I can hear him coming.

you can hear a bird gobble across three property lines....

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

So are walkers the cheapest way to go to start out? You need two or will one suffice?

I had to get two, as I couldn't determine direction accurately with just one.

I use mine even after getting close to a working a bird, as to protect my ears when I shoot. I just turn them down lower when I get closer to the bird.

I can't afford to shoot without some sort of hearing protection, as the damage is already bad enough.

God Bless,
David B.
