Lets look at the difference between growing crops and purchasing corn or protein to feed.

I have close to $30k invested in a tractor, trailer, bush hog, disk, spreader, and various other implements. I spent several thousand on dozier rental to push my plots out, just so I would have enough bare ground to plant; eventhough it is acerage I took out of timber production and will be an economic loss. Every year I spend thousands on lime, fertilizer and seed, and that cost was ven higher this year due to drought and having to plant twice to get about half of the stand I normally have.

I could have taken the same money spent food plotting and purchased a lot of corn and protein pellets and had a guaranteed food source 365 days per year every year and still be abead of the game from a cost stand point. I could still feed cheaper if I take the equipment cost out and just buy corn and protein with my lime, seed, fertilizer, and fuel money each year.

Both scenarios would accomplish the same goal: More and bigger deer on my property.

I will continue to plant my plots and improve my natural food sources regardless to any baiting law that is passed, but to call somebody lazy or a poor hunter for feeding instead of food plotting is ridiculous.

The good Lord has blessed me with the money and land to do what I do. I am thankful for the blessing and smart enough to realize not everybody can do the same.

I would pay a hell of a lot more than $15 to end all present and future talks about possibly allowing baiting.

Not everyone will agree on if we should bait or not. I don't really care either way. Think about this if you are a fishermen. Do you use bait for that or just throw a naked hook in the water and hope something bites it. There are so many ways to look at it. I just hope everybody enjoys the hunt.

Let me start off saying I'm not a big pro baiting guy. I have a large plot planted in a "high octane" Fall mix , it's as good as anybody's. It's surrounded by a thick, 10 yo hardwood clear cut. It is not overhunted by any stretch . When I give someone a tour of the property I always say " now I'm gonna show you what legal bait looks like."

I guess you think, bush hogging perfectly good standing corn isn't bait either. State said that practice was perfectly legal to hunt over . Heck, they even did it on state property. That my friend is bait, as is standing corn, IMO.

I was sitting out here hunting one day thinking about this debate. I was looking around at the pear trees I planted that were producing pears that the deer eat�..the apple trees I planted�.the Asian persimmons��the plums�..the peaches��.the Chinese chestnuts�..the sequin chestnuts�..the nuttall oaks�.the sawtooth oaks�.the chinkapin oaks�..the crabapples�..the clover�..the cereal rye��the oats��the turnips��.all of which were providing food sources that bring deer into my property. I thought to myself that it sure seemed silly that I was allowed to feed the deer with all of the other food sources�.but if I put out a little corn in front of my camera over there, then I would be considered then baiting. That seems absurd to me. Just legalize it so we can move on to more important issues.

You're right Burbank, its tough being a mentor. You're intimidated by my superior intelligence and I get that. Denial is one of many defensive emotions when one feels inferior. But don't worry, I'm not offended at all. Keep your chin up and trust your new mentor, I will never lead you astray. Eventually we'll cast off your shadow of shame and you'll feel much better for reclaiming that lost integrity.
