Hi all! I'm looking for a membership lake around the Birmingham area. I'm not looking for a trophy bass lake just a place to catch fish with the kids. I don't have a boat and going to Lake Purdy can be hit or miss.

You can try the lake at Oak Mountain in Pelham.

^^^^Are there any decent fish in there? It seems as if it would be fished pretty hard. Not sure, I know a couple people that caught some last summer when they were camping at the park, I didn't ask how long it took to catch what they caught.

I know you said that you wanted to find a private lake but my brother and kids live in Calera and they go to Bibb County public lake and do pretty well. He has sent me pictures of some really nice fish. They also rent out boats like Purdy. Just figured i would throw this out there. They have a Facebook with info.

Rex lake is a good place to catch a 10lb bass, but you may fish out there for days and catch nothing.

Bibb County and Lake Purdy are very good lakes. The Cahaba River can be awesome as well.

It's nice to hear about Bibb county's lake being a good spot. Spent a couple trips there in the past without even a bite. Haven't fished there much since the tornado and the revamp of the lake.

Rex lake is a good place to catch a 10lb bass, but you may fish out there for days and catch nothing. We are members there...I hate the fishin haha beautiful lake and some of the biggest fish ive ever seen...Caught some 8s, some 5s, and brother had a couple 10 plus jump off but we never caught more than 5 fish an entire afternoon and just to catch 1 bass is a good day...My theory is that it is over managed like there are two sizes of fish: monsters and the little ones who avoided the shocking...I've stopped even going over there because I have some spots where you can get on some good ones and still catch a bunch...

Can go to smith lake dam and catch bout all the bream ya want to from the bank or from the spillway walkway below it.

No way in heck I would take my kids to the spill way. When they let that water loose without warning it gets real deep real fast. It's amazing more people don't drown out there every year. Bream or trout? Bream on topside trout in spillway.

But Bibb County is or was at one time closed about half the year.
not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids
