There was a freak accident in Baldwin County last week. Guy was in an elevated shooting house hunting near a logging operation. One of the log trucks backed into the stand about daylight and turned it over. Hunter was injured pretty bad from what I was told.

That's a dang good deal. I bought three for $60 at the Buckmasters show a couple of years ago. I use them on all my lockons.

Glad he's gonna be ok..These stories are the reason I sold all my climbers.I hunt 99.9% outta a 16ft tripod and there is no way to tie up while climbing up/down but you can bet I'm very careful and watch what I'm doing.

Do you all use life lines every time you step a foot off the ground around the house? At some point there is such a thing as too much worrying. there are certainly risks any time you are off the ground, but if you tied off every time you were over 4' off the ground you wouldn't get much done. A ladder stand is definitely less dangerous than changing light bulbs at the house.

Question: I use a HSS vest, always have. I use the extra rope piece that goes around the tree, for a little more freedom of movement than the strap. When climbing in my climber, I'll climb then adjust the rope up, climb to it then adjust again etc. When using the lifeline, I can see moving the Prusic knot up then climbing up then adjusting again etc: My question is, if you are climbing on climbing sticks to a hang-on, don't you have to use both hands to adjust the prusic know up ? Letting go to do that seems a little awkward that could lead to a fall. I may be missing something, so take it easy

If I'm more than 5ft off the ground, I'm taking some kind of precaution. I've got 8 screws, 2 rods and a plate in my neck. I've also got 4 screws and a bracket that looks like an H in my lower back. All of this because of a broken neck and a torn L5/S1 disc caused by a 15' fall from a ladder stand. You can be as careful as you want, but $hit will and can happen at some point that you can't control.

You were also taking the stand loose from the tree correct? I've got a buddy who fractured his back, broke some ribs, and broke a leg falling down the steps of a 8' shooting house a month ago. stuff happens like you said. I just don't see climbing into a secured ladder stand as any more dangerous than changing a light bulb in your kitchen or walking down the steps on your deck.

I hunt just a few miles up the road from Pine hill, I don't climb any more,, always used hunters safety vest when I did,,, shooting houses and metal ladder stands for me now or sit in a chair,,

Tie the bottom end of the lifeline around the tree or ladder. This will allow you to use 1 hand to slide the prussic knot.
