I just heard that life flight was landing at the walking track in Pine Hill to pick up a hunter who fell out of his tree stand. I don't know any details but I'm sure he could use some prayers.

Holy crap; just found out it's a guy I know well.
Apparently fell going up/down ladder stand. Early reports are broken leg/rib; not as bad as could have been.

Will track deer in Marengo, Greene, Sumter, Wilcox, Perry, Hale counties.

Just talked to his wife; backpack hung up and he lost his balance getting down from ladder. Fell 20'; VERY lucky. Had his phone handy so he was able to call for help( note to self).
Broken pelvis and ribs. Going to surgery today to determine if pelvis needs a pin or let it heal on it's own. He is about 70.
He lives in Chelsea so fire chief recommended they airlift him to UAB. She said responders did a great job.

And most folks think ladder stands are safe ! Wear that harness and/or life line !!

I hope he has a quick and full recovery. The broken pelvis explains the helicopter ride.
I'm 57 years old and have not used my climber in 3 years. In the same period I've only used a ladder stand once. But, that hasn't stopped me from killing deer and pigs anyway from the ground.

They believe the pelvis will heal without surgery and starting PT today; they don't mess around. Friend was VERY fortunate.
We are already discussing plans at our camp for lifelines on all our ladders next season. We are not as young as we used to be and hope that trend continues.

I usually leave all of my gear on the ground and use a pull up rope to bring up my back pack and gun/bow. I use an extra long rope so I only have to pull up one thing at a time.
I have not used a lifeline before, but I am thinking I may in the future, or just stay on the ground.
I do hope that the guy makes a full recovery and gets back out in the woods soon.
