After reading the email my question is, have any of you heard this nasty rumor that the DNR is allowing hunting over bait. I know I haven't. It seems to me if there was this rumor running rampant out there it would be all over social media. I had heard from some people at the beginning of the season that the State has passed a law making it legal, but I was sure to tell them they were wrong.

They're probably using drones. Yes that would be an accurate assessment form what I was told

If they can see a 200lb pile of corn in the middle of a green field and can see the top of the shooting house at the end of said field, I think they could easily conclude that illegal baiting is taking place. Of course they would still have to catch someone in the shooting house but come on. Based off the officer discretion loop hole in the mickey mouse regulation they could technically write you a ticket if caught anywhere on said property where corn is found. You would not necessarily have to be sitting in said shooting house.

what are thy doing wasting our money with that crap. Ofcourse folks feed deer with corn, always have and always will. If off to side it would be legal. Just how stupid can they get. How do they know someone was hunting that field. They spend big money on that stuff but do nothing about spotlight hunters, or trespassers.

If off to side it would be legal. Possibly not, if in the discretion of the GW the only reason a deer would go to that spot is because of the corn there. Then he could and likely would write a citation. THAT's the silly part. They have an "area definition" and it's still vague, confusing and can result in a person doing exactly what it says/describes yet still receive a citation.

I'm guessing that when corn shows up on most properties just before and during hunting season it is being put there for the express purpose of drawing deer to the area to kill. So yeah it seems pretty obvious that baiting and not hunting or supplemental feeding is going on. Just my humble opinion. Don't understand why so many people get all up in arms over the rule if they aren't baiting when they put their corn out.

Heard the rumor that the Guv had banned state agencies from using drones. No idea if true. Do know that ADEM has done routine checks on surface mining sites and other sites with fixed wing aircraft. Heard rumor of a farmer that had to clean up a gulley that was found this way. I personally think drones would be a cheaper method for surveillance.

Why don't they just legalize night hunting and trespassing? I mean it's all illegal, why should we stop at making just one legal? I would imagine that there are as many deer killed over a pile of corn annually as there are killed by night hunters and tresspassers

Let me see if I can sum this up.
People want to use corn to make it easier to kill deer, but they don't want the GW's to use methods to make it easier to catch people that are breaking the law and they still want to bitch about there is not enough GW's and enforcement against law breakers?

We plant for and feed the wildlife year-round. There are many members on here who either know me, or have hunted with me that know that. I have never made it any kind of secret. Not, am I in any way ashamed of doing so the few months of hunting season. We make every attempt to place our feeders in a manner that complies with the Laws and Regulations. Why do we feed? It is our way of paying back to the resources. It aids in the general health of many species AND it helps to hold and attract game. There is also an aesthetic value to the non-hunters in our family who simply like to feed and view the wildlife. And, the numerous pictures we get of the wildlife at our fields and feeders is enjoyed by many. So, it is the best way that we can balance the Give and Take of our utilization of the wildlife resources.
