I gave up on bow hunting many years ago, but my grandson has been practicing regularly and wants to give it a try. I want to get him some expandable broadheads, what would you recommend for a 17 year old with about a 55 pound pull bow?

I shoot spitfires now, but have several others. The one thing I've learned is if ya hit them where ur supposed to any broadhead with sharp blades will work, if ya don't, anything short of a grenade ain't gonna work.

I highly recommend the mar-den vortex. Will probably need to use a 2" cut with that weight bow. (they make up to a 2 3/4 dia). Very durable and simple design amd the best mechanical out there IMO. you may have to order them. Big box stores don't carry them.

Wasp makes a 1 1/4" three blade Jakhammer that requires less energy and works well with lower poundage bows.

Jakhammer gets my vote as well. Rage may not be good for him as I have heard stories of them opening in the quiver.

it all comes down to how well you maintain the rages. if you keep a good o-ring on them, no problems. if you do not change it, they will open. i change mine after every shot at deer or after every practice session.

I shot rage 2 blades out of 60 lbs Bowtech 101st Airborn, and got pass through and everything I shot except for one hog that I clipped the spine on. Nothing left my sight before collapsing. Shot were from 8 to 30 yards.

I would say a Rage 40KE. I think the standard 2in Rage might not get full penetration depending on his speed and arrow weight.

At 60lbs and a 385gr Axis i didnt get quite a pass through but since bumping to 70lbs and a 420 FMJ arrow i have had complete pass throughs on the last 4 i have shot with standard Rages.

I've killed two so far this year in GA using the Rage 3 blade. I watched both deer fall within 30 yards of my tree. Arrow completely passed through both deer at 33 yards and 24 yards.

Last year I killed two bucks with standard 2 blade rage with 55lb draw. Both shots were between 15-20 yards. One was complete pass through, other was quartering to shot. Place the arrow just infront of shoulder. Arrow hit the heart and hit the opposite shoulder. Both deer may have went 40 yards. Im sticking with these.
