For all those saying they will have to find some kind of job, after retirement, either just to keep their mind busy or for a little extra money, insurance, etc... what would you like to get a job doing?

Holy chit, retire and then work as a charter guy? Seriously curious ... if that's your idea of enjoyable retirement what do you do now? Doing fishing charters isn't easy by any stretch.

Something stress free and easy such as doing Code Enforcement after years of police work. On weekends I watch empty FEMA trailers. I haven't had one of those act like a fool yet. Quite different from police work.

Now I think that my ultimate job goal is to work at Dollywood and be the man that pushes the GO button on the roller coasters.

Whats so hard about charter fishing? I'd pick and choose who to take, when I want to take them. I have a good time watching people catch fish and have fun. I wouldn't do it for the money at all. Just because I've been in the business before, and there was problems with cash flow at times with regs and seasons. I'd be doing it because its something I enjoy. Hell, I'm 25. It may change.

You may be the first person I've ever heard say they think charter fishing isn't hard or challenging. All of the captains and mates I've ever encountered in multiple states for salt (offshore, inshore) and fresh say it's not brain surgery but it's also not a walk in the park.

The hardest part about charter boat fishing and deer hunting guide, which I've been offered a chance to do part time and declined, is because some people are arseholes and don't understand that you don't control weather, the fish bite, deer movement etc. Too many things out of your control.

Then we get to the actual work involved, which is much more than is seen by the hunter or fisherman. A LOT of work.

All of it will ruin you to something that you used to love. If you like to fish or hunt, don't become a guide.

Very, very rarely can a person maintain his/her passion for hunting and fishing when they get into the business. Some can, and bravo for them.

I can't imagine ever fully retiring. It helps having a job you don't hate though.

Like I said in the other thread, I'm going to piddle on other folk's cabins doing remodeling, building, etc... I'll build a forge and make some knives, etc... But none of it [hopefully] will be because I need the money. It will be to give me something constructive to do with my time that I enjoy doing.

I firmly believe that people need a purpose in life, and that continues well in to old age. I saw a documentary one day about folks that were 100 years old and older, and one of the common traits was that all of them had either a job or volunteer work that they went to almost every day.

I will continue to keep myself busy doing what I consider worthwhile, fun and interesting work until the day I die. I wasn't meant to sit in a chair and rot away.

There's a good chance I'll revert to what most of my family did to make their living (some still do) truck farming and produce peddling.

Somethin that does not have direct interaction with the public. I'll probably get more involved in commercial real estate.
