http://www.eregulations.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Mandatory-Game-Check2.pdfBefore You Go Hunting: You must obtain a hunting license and a Harvest Record. If you are exempt from needing a license or have a lifetime hunting license, you still need a Harvest Record. You can get a Harvest Record online at www.outdooralabama.com or from the Alabama Hunting and Fishing Digest. Possession of a smartphone with the Outdoor Alabama app will be accepted in lieu of a paper Harvest Record. During Your Hunt: You must always carry your Harvest Record, your hunting license and a pen or pencil while hunting. You must fill out the Harvest Record with the date and type of animal taken BEFORE moving the animal. This includes all deer and turkeys. I am only going to say this ONE time...what you just said IS NOT THE REGULATION AND CARRIES ABSOLUTELY NO WEIGHT IN COURT. PERIOD DAMNITT. ONLY THE WORDING OF THE ACTUAL REGULATION CARRIES ANY WEIGHT IN COURT. I understand that, but what I posted is what 99.999% of the hunting population of Alabama is going to go by.
If you’re a common sense person, you probably don’t feel you have a home in this world right now. If you’re a Christian, you know you were never meant to.

How about we all agree that game check is a load of crap. Who came up with the name "Pocket Ranger" for the app anyway. Thank you. Horrible name. Sounds like a guy trying to adjust a fatty with his hand in his pocket. Why didn't they just call it Game Check.

I'm glad you guys have figured out the answer to the question yet again. What would be the point of even having the app if it didn't replace the paper harvest record? If the app didn't replace the paper record, then why wouldn't everyone just record the kill on paper and then report it within 48 hrs on their web site? The dcnr ain't always logical, but I'll give them more credit than to think they want you to have both. And BTW, I'm sticking with paper myself. I can see what is coming, and it will be much easier to deal with using paper instead of the app. To the op - I'd take that one to court. With a good lawyer you can beat it for sure. Can probably beat it without one, unless there is more to the story.

I'm guessing if he admitted to deer hunting as well, that is where the ticket came into play. The dead hog doesn't really matter. Good point. If he told the GW he was deer hunting but shot a hog then he admitted to a violation. Other than that obviously you don't need a harvest record for just hog hunting.

Wasn't there somebody on here a few years ago that got a ticket for having multiple harvest records? Had one on his license and the one in digest. Have your phone with the app and a paper license in your pocket and still get a ticket.

I received 2 written warnings in April turkey hunting. Granted it was not a County that I usually hunt in and it was on 40 acres private land in the middle of a big hunting club that was nothing but pines. I'm sure the hunting club called the GW as it was the first time I had been to the property and I saw signs of poaching.
The first warning was not having a harvest record in my possession, although I was 10 yds from the truck where I had my game check app and paper harvest record.
Second warning was that I didn't have a written permission in my possession. I would probably got a ticket on this one, but the GW was reasonable and he allowed me to call the land owner and he confirmed. I never went back to that place and since then have always vowed to reduce any possible risk going forward. Like my phone battery dying or me leaving my phone at the house. I also keep a copy of my hunting license and my signed federal duck stamp in a sandwich bag under my ATV seat. Some might say this is a little extreme, but I consider it a preventative measure.

This seems sketchy to me. Yup. I'm guessing the guy has a lifetime license, and wasn't carrying a harvest record. Or he didn't have his license on him, and they just ticketed him for not having a harvest record. Hmmmm still confused

Never know any GW just walking through the woods writing tickets for no written permission without landowner's blessing. GW would be stupid to write for not having written permission UNLESS the landowner had called and asked to write folks without it in writing. If he had written you, landowner shows up at court and says you had permission , judge bounces you.

Strutter u must have a lifetime license or are over the age of 65? I do have lifetime hunting and freshwater. I still purchase saltwater, state & fed duck stamps and those other 2 free things you get, HIP and saltwater registration. I did see where it is against the law to have multiple harvest records. I'm not sure how that would hold up if the paper copy only list bucks and turkey, yet the app requires does to be checked.

The paper copy has spaces to list does (unantlered deer). Looking at it right now.

I see that, thanks for the reminder. I guess I need to call and see if I can have both. If it's raining and I don't want to take phone, can I take paper. Or if I forget my battery backup for my phone on one of those all day sits, what do I do.

ya'll do realize that if you are a guest of the landowner you do not have to have written permission, on you or otherwise????
arresting someone who is a guest of the landowner for no written permission is an act of false arrest. hmmmmmm
