A buddy I work with was hog hunting a few days ago by boat on pubic land, he killed a hog and loaded it in his boat, when he gets back to the landing he's checked and they wrote him a ticket for no harvest record. He's wanting me to ask you guys If its worth fighting it?
Why did he get a ticket for a deer harvest record when he was hunting hog?

I'd say that major bs. You don't have to have it squirrel or rabbit or hog hunting so I'd fight it.

I'm guessing if he admitted to deer hunting as well, that is where the ticket came into play. The dead hog doesn't really matter.

Damn wonder if they'll write you a ticket for night hunting deer during May and August even though your hunting hogs on your place

I wonder if it had to do with him carrying a rifle during deer season on public land or something like that. Maybe the officer thought he had grounds to assume he was hunting deer since he admitted he toted a rifle during deer season and engaged in hunting of some sort.
Not that I agree with it.

Not that I agree with it. can't arrest a person legally for an assumption...ya know where that leads

The "harvest" record I'm looking at right now from the Regulation booklet says this:
Harvest record must be in possession when hunting.
It does not specify any animal although clearly it has been promoted as only required for deer and turkey. But it states exactly as above on the form.

Clem, the harvest record itself that I have says the same thing, BUT, big but, that is NOT what the harvest record regulation says.
220-2-.146 says "ANY PERSON HUNTING DEER OR TURKEY..."
When a GW writes a ticket he must be able to cite the regulation/law number on the warrant he signs at the clerks office. Wording on the harvest record is immaterial to the regulation.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
