i have just began restoring a johnson outboard.it is an old johnson electramatic around 1969 model.what i need to know is do any of yall know anyone in the guntersville area that can rewire the ignition .it has a box on the outside of the motor its not like anything ive ever seen b4 it looks like a ford solenoid on the inside of the box .i would apreciate if anyone here knows where i could get it rewired i dont care if its back to johnsons design or not just as long as it works .i know sometimes there are ways to bypass certain things and it still work.a friend of mine years ago used a ford ignition to start an old old johnson but ive lost touch with him.thank you for your help.

Are you talking about the ignition circuit or the starting circuit?

all i know is there is one big black wire that comes out of the motor.it has many different wires inside of it that go to like the battery and the ignition switch.they also switch and go to the solenoid.its confusing to me.im about ready to remove themnm all and hand crank it .but would love to be able to use the electric start

Pretty sure I could do what you are needing. Put me some pics of it up here and let me have a look at it. I have always enjoyed a good challenge of redesigning/rebuilding electrical control circuits.

Hey OD08, try this site I don't know what the crap will come up but you can choose any make or year outboard and pull up drawings of each system, with part numbers if you want to then order something.
