Hey guys, all this trout talk got me to thinking about going below Smith and catching a few. I haven�t been in a long time and what I caught back then was released. What I want to know is about cleaning and cooking them. What methods do you guys use to clean a trout? Can you just filet them like a crappie? How do you guys like to cook them? Recipes?

If i'm not mistaken, they have a Y bone in them that keeps you from filleting like a crappie. There is a way to do it, but I haven't ever done it. Preparing - gut, scale, de-head...batter and fry. Good eating.

Cut along the gut and then cut behind each fin on side but don't cut to top of fish. Gut the fish and then break the head back backwards and you can then pull the skin off all way back to tail. It's a little tricky at first but once you get the hand of it, takes no time at all. Just batter the fish and deep fry whole.

Wrap in foil with a little butter, salt, pepper, and lemon juice and bake. Or dip in crushed saltine cracker meal and egg and fry. I leave the skin on.
