I've bow hunted public land out there 3 years. We've put arrows in deer from 135" -150". I think you can kill some bigger deer for sure but a mature 140" 8 point is a dang fine deer anywhere in the country. Me personally, I wouldn't be passing him. Especially if your only able to hunt for a limited period of time. My expectations would probably be a little different on private ground but on a 1 week trip like we typically take, if I see a mature buck that fires me up, I'm going to shoot him. My goals may change when I've killed a whole house full of 140" deer but until then, I'm going to shoot mature bucks that get me excited.
