Y'all are overthinking this. We are in dixie. We will get cold nights and a few cold days, but the majority of our days will heat to a level where rye, wheat, oats, clover will all grow and grow well. We won't have to fight snow cover like farmers up north do, either. Once we pass the winter solstice daylight becomes more numerous, and these late planted food plots will be some fire hunting for the late extended season in february. Plant away.
I agree with this. But with the drought, I'm thinking if you can get growth, it will be browsed heavily. Therefor, fertilize early and often. Gonna want to maximize growth at this point.
