I got 14,000 bags of seed wheat in my warehouse from where my farmers backed out due to drought. Not hard to come by

Ground temps will not support germination for much longer. Seems like 55 degrees and higher is the magic soil temp.

The problem we have is most buy from these mom & pop feed stores. They have a pretty good idea on past sales and don't want to over order. The demand from hunters has been abnormal. They are afraid to order much. But corn....

Planted 14 today. 1200 pounds of seed. Soil temp should be fine. No really cold weather following the rain. If we get rain Monday night they should germinate and be green in 2 weeks. That's the plan anyway.....

Does anybody on here know what the minimum temperatures for food plot grains to germinate are? It seems I have seen video of farmers planting in the snow and cold, but I don't know what it was.

We plant wheat up here every winter til Dec 10. As long as ground isn't frozen it'll germ. It is a cool season crop after all.

I know cereal rye can germinate in 3 days and can actively grow as long as temps are 34 degrees and above.

Y'all are overthinking this. We are in dixie. We will get cold nights and a few cold days, but the majority of our days will heat to a level where rye, wheat, oats, clover will all grow and grow well. We won't have to fight snow cover like farmers up north do, either. Once we pass the winter solstice daylight becomes more numerous, and these late planted food plots will be some fire hunting for the late extended season in february. Plant away.

But with the drought, I'm thinking if you can get growth, it will be browsed heavily. Therefor, fertilize early and often. Gonna want to maximize growth at this point.

Just finished planting plots yesterday. We are in extreme south Alabama, but couldn't see any use in planting without moisture. We planted all the same... Oats, wheat, winter peas, clover, and rape. We will wait and see about applying more fertilizer the first week of Jan. May not need to do that this year.
Now, off to clean that tractors air filter. I've never seen dust like that before.

Wheat is 40 degrees and above. I read all about this last night. I pulled up some soil temp maps and looks like we are around 50 degrees, 4 inches deep. I figure the rain will warm it a bit?
