First, I have got to say I'm blessed just to have an opportunity to take such an animal.
I've been a member here on the forum for several years but I'm usually more of a spectator than an active poster.
I scouted the area where I killed the deer twice back around the beginning of bow season, coming into the area from different directions each time. I had located a buck bed on the point of 1 ridge and some doe beds on a nearby ridge. There were several small rubs in the area and the there were 2 on large trees that came up to about chest high. The area had some well worn trails both around the ridges and down in the bottoms. There were also 2 places in the area were springs were still trickling a little water out that formed small 3ft diameter water holes.
After I found all that I stayed out of the area until yesterday. I started into the woods at about 11 A.M.. The way I accessed the area made it about a mile walk. I hunted my way in trying not to take more than 3 steps at a time. That caused the walk in to take roughly 3.5 hours. I hunt Bankhead from the ground in a Millenium tree seat. I strapped the seat to a tree where I could see the trails that went around the ridge and some of the bottom. Before I could sit down I saw this deer quartering toward me about 75 yards away. I had to watch him for a few minutes and wait for an opening to get a shot at him(seemed like forever). I finally got a shot at about 50 and hit him in the neck, and he dropped right there.
