I know this isn't a 12 year study, but just common sense. Over the years, expecially this year, I have noticed a lot of small spotted fawns in September or later in south Alabama. If they are born anytime after September 1, with a gestation of 200 to 205 days then the breeding date of a high percentage of the fawns I see would be after January 31.
If the bucks in your area are rutting before Jan 31 you can enjoy the best buck hunting. I don't understand why the Alabama Game and Fish can't divide the state anywhere around a line E & W in the Montgomery vicinity. Take two weeks away in December and add it to the end of the season. Let the hunters in south Bama hunt the rut.
